Yokogawa has announced the release of the WT1500 Precision Power Analyzer as its latest addition to its WT series designed for power measurement in EV powertrains and renewable energy equipment. The WT1500 is the first model in the WT series to support 2000V DC input voltage, alongside what Yokogawa describes as “industry-leading measurement accuracy.” The analyzer also includes a space-saving design, resolver signal input support, and multi-unit synchronization capability.

Measuring voltages above 1500V has traditionally required dedicated high-voltage dividers, which can affect measurement accuracy and complicate wiring, and motor efficiency measurement in EV applications has also typically required power and resolver signals to be measured separately and synchronized later on a computer. The Yokogawa WT1500 is designed to eliminate the need for high-voltage dividers in systems up to 2000V while streamlining these testing workflows.

The WT1500 offers total power accuracy of ±0.038% for DC and 50/60 Hz measurements, along with low-power-factor accuracy of ±0.07% of apparent power at 50/60 Hz. The device includes two input element types: a high voltage element supporting direct measurement up to 2000V DC and 300 kHz, intended for power conversion systems (PCS) and energy storage systems (ESS), and a wide bandwidth element supporting up to 1000V with 2MHz bandwidth for measuring high-frequency waveforms in EV motors. Both input types share a common sensor input and can be used together within a single unit.

It supports up to four power measurements and four motor evaluations simultaneously. It includes encoder and resolver signal inputs, IEEE 1588 time synchronization, CAN/CAN FD bus data output, and low-latency data transmission via UDP communication. The device supports remote operation from a PC, external monitor, or tablet, and includes a front-panel control interface for standalone use. It has a 2U rack-mountable design measuring approximately 88mm in height with a 19-inch rack width.

For measurements requiring more than four channels, up to five WT1500 units can be synchronized to enable 20-channel power measurement, with one unit serving as the main controller. The device includes up to four current input terminals alongside voltage terminals, compatible with new current adapter accessories including the CT Series penetration-type adapter, the CT1000S split-core adapter, and AC-only current clamp probes.

The Yokogawa WT1500 is aimed at the EV/xEV and automotive sectors, power systems, and renewable energy applications including PCS and ESS. Applications include four-channel power measurement for single-phase and three-phase inputs, measurement of dual-inverter motor and e-Axle systems, and multi-unit high-voltage measurement for ESS and PCS systems.

Pokdepinion: Skipping the high-voltage dividers should be good news for engineers, since it means less setup hassle every time they run a test.
