Intel’s NUC Extreme lineup represents the most powerful of its kind – and the latest iteration, the NUC 13 Extreme, is comprised of a 7.5L chassis that you can fit a full-size desktop GPU with. However, as Team Blue sold its business to ASUS last year, the Taiwanese PC manufacturer has other plans.

ASUS has confirmed to Fudzilla that the NUC Extreme lineup is no more, as the company already offers conventional tower-based PCs like the ROG Strix G16CHR (which also happens to be 7.5L large). However, it looks like the NUC 13 Extreme may be still available in some regions for some time, given its listing on the ASUS website.

The whole idea of NUCs is built on something called “compute element”, which is essentially CPU, RAM, I/O, and all the essential components housed in a PCIe card-like form factor (like GPUs, essentially). However, for the NUC 13 Extreme, there are no Intel 14th Gen versions available since it makes little sense given the minuscule changes of the newer lineup.

On ASUS’s part, the recently-announced ROG NUC will supersede the NUC Extreme series as the high-performance offering for these miniaturized PCs. The 2.5L chassis houses up to Intel Core Ultra 9 processor and NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, so don’t expect any kind of swappable compute elements or GPU like the NUCs of old.

Pokdepinion: The writing’s on the wall, given that it was pretty well known back then the NUC Extreme lineup has pretty much outgrown itself.
