Intel’s geriatric Raptor Lake architecture simply refuses to die: despite first debuting in 13th Gen Core back in 2022, it has gone through several refreshes and rebrands at this point and somehow kept going on almost half a decade on. Leaker Golden Pig Upgrade alleges that the upcoming Core 2000HX series will continue to extend Raptor Lake’s product lifespan come 2027.

Core 2000HX Will Be The FOURTH Raptor Lake Refresh

Translation: “Oh right, Raptor Lake Next’s HX-series for laptops is called Core 2000HX series, also coming with an extra digit”

While it has been known for some time that Intel has been cooking up “Raptor Lake Next” for its next refresh of the aging architecture, new information pointed at its naming system also following the four-digit system set to be purportedly utilized by Team Blue’s upcoming Core Ultra Series 4 (codenamed Nova Lake) lineup for desktops and high-performance laptops.

Here’s what to expect: the Core 2000HX will feature three variants in Core 9 (8P+16E), Core 7 (8P+12E) and a second Core 7 (6P+8E) variant, totaling 24, 20, and 14 cores respectively. Note that the name change actually retains the same first digit, moving from Core 200H to Core 2000HX with the upcoming refresh. Given that HX branding is already in use for the leading-edge Core Ultra based on Arrow Lake architecture, this rebrand should reasonably lessen the branding confusion.

To give you an idea just how long Raptor Lake has persisted across Intel’s processor lineups, here’s a summary – Raptor Lake first debuted in 2022 under 13th Gen Core, then 14th Gen Core picked up the first architectural refresh; later, the lineup moved into Core 100 series serving the budget laptop segment, then Core 200 series for budget gaming laptop segments. The upcoming Core 2000HX will mark the fourth refresh, and the fifth distinct lineup where this architecture has been featured in the range.

Pokdepinion: At this point I’m just in awe of how long-lasting Raptor Lake architecture is.
