NVIDIA Releases Hotfix Drivers to Correct High CPU Usage Issues

The bug previously caused persistent CPU usage once a game is closed.

The problematic driver in question. (We have yet to receive the hotfix driver at this writing.)

NVIDIA recently released version 531.18 of their drivers, which included their new RTX Video Super Resolution feature. However, some PC gamers have been experiencing high CPU usage from the NVIDIA Container app. If you’re one of those people, fret not – a hotfix driver is now released to correct the issue.

The hotfix drivers (531.26) solves the issue, ensuring that NVIDIA Container no longer causes CPU usage spikes when logging in or closing games. This isn’t the first time this year that NVIDIA has had to quickly fix issues with their GeForce drivers. Just last month, an update to Discord caused minor clockspeed issues on some of the company’s graphics cards, requiring an app profile update to solve the problem.

Minor driver shenanigans aside, the RTX Video Super Resolution which comes with this driver can be a useful feature if you’re looking to upscale videos on YouTube or elsewhere. This new feature is now available for RTX 30 and RTX 40 series GPUs, and Microsoft has jumped on the bandwagon to release a version of upscaler of their own for their Edge browser.
