NVIDIA RTX 3050 6GB Variant To Launch In Feb 2024, With Cut-Down Specs
Chinese forum Board Channels has provided new information on the new RTX 3050 variant which is the 6GB model. This new variant, while similar in name, is quite different compared to the vanilla RTX 3050 8GB model, as the specs have been cut down in aspects other than just the VRAM itself.
According to the forum, NVIDIA will launch this GPU following the launch of all three models under the RTX 40 SUPER lineup (RTX 4080 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER & RTX 4070 SUPER) in January, with the launch currently pushed back to February 2024 instead. No specific date has been provided, however.
Here’s a summary of the specs for this upcoming entry-level GPU: utilizing the new GA107-325 core variant, the RTX 3050 6GB will feature fewer CUDA cores over its 8GB counterpart (2560 vs 2048), uses a narrower memory bus (128-bit vs 96-bit), and features a significantly reduced power draw at just 70 watts – meaning no PCIe power connector is required for this card. It’s also expected to be cheaper than the original card, costing $179.

Pokdepinion: Maybe naming it as 3050 is not the brightest idea. Why not 3040 or 3030? (Let’s not forget RTX 2050 is such a terrible name while we’re at it.)
