The GPU overclocking record is once again broken, this time by CENS with the COLORFUL RTX 4090 iGame LAB on LN2-cooled run of GPUPI, a benchmark that calculates Pi through Bailey-Borwein-Plouffe formula using either OpenCL or CUDA optimizations.

Strictly speaking, there isn’t a clockspeed-based ranking available (HWBOT doesn’t keep track of GPU frequency records), and GPUPI isn’t utilizing the GPU in the most traditional sense. The 3D rendering blocks of the card is not utilized for the entirety of this run, as this relies on compute performance, which is what datacenter-based GPGPUs are designed for.

CENS’s record has saw the GPU complete the GPUPI 3.3 32B run in 46.383 seconds, with the GPU frequency reaching 3930MHz, just 70MHz short of breaking the 4GHz barrier. It’s also the highest GPU clockspeed ever recorded so far.

It’s worth noting that COLORFUL’s iGame LAB GPUs are more focused on extreme overclocking – while based on the more ‘pedestrian’ iGame Vulcan, the silicon itself is highly binned with best possible overclocking potential to get itself best chances of taking the overclocking leaderboards. GALAX’s HOF series and the now-defunct EVGA K|NGP|N edition GPUs are among the models designed for this purpose.
