TNG Digital today announced “SOS Balance” feature designed to ensure uninterrupted toll payments for users with insufficient balance. Available now for free through the TNG eWallet, the feature provides a 24-hour grace period for users to reload their eWallet and settle outstanding charges.

TNG eWallet Introduces SOS Balance

Starting 23 January, SOS Balance will be rolled out to selected TNG eWallet users – the feature allows eligible users to pass through tolls even with an insufficient balance, provided they settle the payment within 24 hours. In principle, this feature is similar to emergency top-up features offered by various telcos in Malaysia, such as SOS Top Up from Hotlink (Maxis) or CreditSOS on U Mobile.

This feature should help reduce the chances of drivers getting stuck at toll gates and creating a traffic congestion (CNY is near, remember). However, failure to settle the payment will restrict users’ access to certain eWallet functionalities until the outstanding amount is cleared.

SOS Balance is available at RFID and PayDirect-enabled highways, covering 31 out of 33 highways in Peninsular Malaysia, though only frequent users will get access to this feature (though its language isn’t exactly clear on what constitutes as frequent). That said, you can easily check your eligibility by tapping the ‘SOS Balance’ icon at the top of the eWallet app’s home screen.

TNG Digital said it’s planning to expand its coverage and explore additional applications for the feature beyond toll payments in the future.

Pokdepinion: Right on time before CNY traffic hits the highways nationwide – hopefully this means less traffic jams!
