PayNet has launched outbound DuitNow QR payment connectivity through Alipay+, allowing Malaysian mobile banking users to pay at overseas merchants without downloading a separate app. The service is now live across five destinations: China, Hong Kong SAR, South Korea, the Philippines, and Laos. Maybank, CIMB, and Hong Leong Bank are the three launch partners, with Bank Islam set to join shortly.
DuitNow QR Overseas Payments Supported At Alipay+ Merchants
At participating merchants in the five supported markets, customers open the DuitNow QR payment function within their existing Malaysian banking app and scan any merchant QR code displaying the Alipay+ logo. The transaction is reviewed and confirmed entirely within the same app. No Alipay+ account creation is required, and no additional application needs to be installed.
The new capability builds on an existing collaboration between PayNet and Ant International. Since November 2023, travelers using supported Alipay+ partner wallets have been able to pay at DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia. This allows local businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, to tap into international visitor spending, which supports the tourism economy during Visit Malaysia 2026-2027. The outbound service now extends this link in the other direction.
The Alipay+ ecosystem connects more than two billion user accounts across over 50 international payment partners. It covers more than 150 million merchants in over 210 markets, including more than 10 national payment schemes such as PayNet. PayNet recorded nearly 30 million cross-border transactions in 2025, roughly 150% more than in 2024; transactions linked to China accounted for much of the growth.
Pokdepinion: Finally you can pay abroad with your banking app like a normal person instead of hunting for an ATM or explaining your card to a confused cashier.
