CelcomDigi says it has reinforced its 5G position following three significant developments involving Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB): the completion of DNB’s RM5.2bn financing exercise, the award of a long-term 5G spectrum allocation, and progress toward the transfer of Minister of Finance (Incorporated) shareholding to mobile network operator shareholders.

CelcomDigi’s Latest DNB Milestones

CelcomDigi says the completion of DNB’s financing exercise is expected to strengthen its capital structure and financial capacity to support network priorities. It is also anticipated to reduce the need for additional equity funding from mobile network operator shareholders, allowing greater focus on improving the efficiency and performance of the 5G network.

DNB has been awarded its 5G spectrum over a 15-year period, providing long-term certainty over spectrum availability and costs – with 200MHz of contiguous mid-band spectrum, DNB is positioned to address growing consumer and enterprise demand. The spectrum allocation is also expected to support network modernization, expansion of indoor building solutions, improved coverage, and greater spectrum utilization.

Upon completion of the share transfer from MoF Inc., mobile network operator shareholders will take on a greater role in jointly steering DNB’s strategic and operational direction. CelcomDigi, which operates Malaysia’s largest mobile network with more than 20.3 million users, will contribute its scale, nationwide network assets, and over 30 years of telecommunications experience to support DNB.
