CelcomDigi has a new safety feature that, on paper, should stymie the ever-increasing prevalence of scam calls. It’s called Voice Firewall, and like its name suggests, it works in similar ways as a conventional internet firewall – flag incoming calls deemed suspicious before it reaches the end user.
Voice Firewall Offers Real-Time Detection
Per the telco, this technology is “fully embedded” into CelcomDigi’s core network, allowing it to analyze call traffic patterns and risk indicators to identify potentially fraudulent activities. This complements its existing SMS firewall technology, which detects and filters malicious messages at the network level.
During a recent pilot, CelcomDigi detected 355 million malicious and suspicious call attempts, including 217 million robocalls; following its nationwide rollout in July, suspicious incoming calls are now flagged with a “Suspected Scam” alert on customers’ phones. This will benefit over 20 million customers nationwide that forms CelcomDigi’s user base today.
CelcomDigi says the Voice Firewall forms part of its broader approach to combating scams, structured around its A.C.T. framework: raising Awareness, driving Compliance internally while supporting enforcement agencies, and leveraging Technology to combat cybercrime.
The company stated this builds on its long-standing S.A.F.E. Internet program and nationwide scam awareness initiatives aimed at equipping Malaysians “with the knowledge, support and protection they need to navigate the digital world securely.”
Pokdepinion: This should be a standard feature across all telcos.
