Expect Lower Broadband Prices After September This Year, Says MCMC
Good news for Malaysians – Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has said that broadband pricing will be lower by the end of this September, as the commission says it is finalizing the “access agreements” with various broadband ISPs.
MCMC also noted that most ISPs have either published or are in the process of publishing reference access offers (RAO), followed by negotiations of access agreements. The negotiations should result in lower prices as the deal concludes by the end of September. The statement reads: “as such, price reduction of broadband services can be expected to take place thereafter.”
The press statement was made in response to SoyaCincau’s report on the lack of price revisions for broadband services, 4 months after Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP) was enforced (back in March 1st). With MSAP, the wholesale prices for broadband is set to cut in half to RM254.64 for this year, from the current price of RM515. The new pricing update is expected to benefit millions of subscribers from various broadband ISPs.
