YTL AI Labs has launched ILMUcode, a frontier AI coding platform built for Malaysian developers; the company says this gives Malaysians access to world-class coding AI through sovereign infrastructure, positioned as an affordable option for the local developer community.

ILMUcode Features

The platform combines an agentic AI coding assistant with ILMU-GLM-5.3, the latest model in YTL AI Labs’ ILMU family, developed in partnership with Z.ai. ILMUcode is designed to support the full software development workflow, from understanding complex codebases and writing code to troubleshooting and prototyping. Its performance ranks among the leading coding models globally on benchmarks including Terminal-Bench 2.1 and DeepSWE.

ILMUcode is built on ILMU-GLM-5.3, which brings the capabilities of Z.ai’s frontier GLM-5.3 coding model to Malaysian developers via sovereign AI infrastructure. The ILMU family of models is broader than coding alone: its flagship multimodal model currently tops the MalayMMLU benchmark for Bahasa Melayu, and the family also includes speech recognition, text-to-speech, and embedding models.

As part of the launch, Universiti Malaya becomes the first university in Malaysia to introduce ILMUcode to its students. Eight hundred first-year students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology will each receive RM100 in platform credits per month for three months, providing up to RM300 per student to explore and build with ILMUcode as the new semester begins.

Pokdepinion: Free credits for uni students are nice, but let’s see if they actually stick around after the RM300 runs out. Wouldn’t hold my breath for it!
