Google Teases AI That Reads Doctor’s Messy Handwriting
You have been sick before at some point in your life, and you certainly has seen doctors writing things that are barely even readable. Google’s upcoming AI can solve that.

Per Techcrunch report – Google’s prototype AI allows users to take a picture (through Google Lens) of a doctor’s prescription and the AI will process through the image to read the important bits – like medicine names, in a demonstration by Google India in their annual conference.
We’ve started working on the complex process of identifying what’s written on medical prescriptions by building an assistive model to digitise it, using AI, for medical healthcare professionals.#GoogleForIndia pic.twitter.com/XD8YwJ6HBr

In a blog statement, Google says: “This will act as an assistive technology for digitizing handwritten medical documents by augmenting the humans in the loop such as pharmacists, however no decision will be made solely based on the output provided by this technology.”

While OCR (optical character recognition) technology has been available for some time, it has certain limitations, one of which requires the text shown to be relatively legible. This AI however, is capable of differentiating over 100 Indian languages on top of the legibility variations.
No release timeline has been revealed so far, but it is expected to be rolled out in the future.
