A total of 350 winners will be recognized for their “excellence in innovation, creativity, social impact, or inclusivity,” with 50 Distinguished Winners receiving additional recognition and an invitation to Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino next summer. The company is also offering updated resources, including a Swift Coding Club starter kit and new Develop in Swift tutorials, designed to help students prepare for the challenge and enhance their coding skills using Swift, SwiftUI, and Xcode.
Besides that, below are some tips from the regional Swift Student Challenge 2024 winners:
Kai Quan Tay, creator of the app Seymour, advises aspiring Swift Student Challenge participants to focus on their app’s objectives rather than its features and to prioritize what judges will interact with first due to the brief review time; he also encourages experimentation before settling on a final idea. Xuan Han Tan, who developed Lightspeed, emphasizes the importance of starting early, designing the user experience (UX) from the user’s perspective, and thoroughly planning the app’s structure before coding to avoid issues later.
Apiphoom “Api” Chuenchompoo, creator of FitJourney, highlights designing for simplicity and inclusivity, ensuring the app is easy to use and accessible to a wide range of users; and finally, Homo-Sapiens developer Patcharada “Nina” Tavaditap stresses the importance of understanding the target audience and investing time in planning to minimize errors and ensure the app meets user needs effectively.
