In recognition of Mental Health Day on October 10, Apple is encouraging Apple Watch users to focus on their mental wellbeing by offering a limited-edition award (see above) – users can earn the award by recording 10 minutes of mindfulness using any app that syncs with the Health app on iPhone, including the Mindfulness app on Apple Watch.
Tips For Improving Mental Health With Apple Watch
To support overall mental health, Apple has also shared tips on how its devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, can be used to enhance wellbeing. Users are encouraged to log their emotions and moods, which can help build emotional awareness and resilience. The State of Mind feature available on Apple devices allows users to track their daily mood and momentary emotions, providing insights into factors that may influence their mental state.
Additionally, Apple offers mental health assessments for depression and anxiety on iPhone and iPad, the assessments of which can be shared with healthcare providers for informed discussions. Apple Watch users can also track time spent outdoors, with studies showing that exposure to daylight can reduce anxiety and stress; for families with managed Apple Watches, this feature allows tracking of time spent outdoors for younger members as well.
Apple’s Journal app provides another tool to improve mental wellbeing, allowing users to reflect, practice gratitude, and capture everyday moments – personalized suggestions and customizable notifications help develop journaling habits. Lastly, the Focus feature helps users reduce distractions by setting boundaries and silencing notifications during specific activities. This feature can be customized for various modes, such as Work or Sleep, and can be linked to the Lock Screen for easy activation.
