As iPhone Plus sales have steadily declined over the years, rumors are circulating that Apple may be planning to discontinue the Plus lineup and introduce something entirely new. According to recent leaks, Apple could debut the iPhone 17 Slim, a sleek and potentially pricier alternative to the Pro Max series, offering an exciting shift for iPhone enthusiasts.

The iPhone 17 Slim: A Thinner, More Expensive iPhone?

The iPhone 17 Slim is rumored to feature an innovative OLED display that could allow for a significantly thinner design. Reports from DigiTimes suggest that this new OLED panel, known as TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration), may be the key to achieving the slim build. The TDDI OLED panel, introduced by Taiwanese company Novatek, combines the touch sensor layer and the display driver into a single unit, reducing the overall thickness of the device.

While this technology may not sound revolutionary at first glance, it holds significant potential for reducing the bulk of future iPhones. With smartphone manufacturers constantly pushing for thinner devices, this could be Apple’s next move toward ultra-slim smartphones.

The DigiTimes report also hints that Novatek may be a key supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Slim. Although there is no official confirmation of this partnership, the possibility remains that Apple will test this new TDDI OLED technology on other devices before introducing it to the iPhone lineup. It wouldn’t be surprising if we see Apple Watches or iPads equipped with TDDI OLED displays ahead of the iPhone 17 Slim’s release.

It’s important to keep in mind that all of this is based on rumors, and there is always the possibility that Apple’s plans could change. In fact, earlier leaks suggested that the iPhone 17 Slim may feature only one rear camera, which seems highly unlikely given the premium pricing speculated for the device.

Whether Apple sticks with the rumored name “iPhone 17 Slim” or chooses a completely different marketing approach, it’s clear that the tech giant is looking for new ways to innovate and shake up its iPhone lineup.

Pokdepinion: While the Slim name doesn’t evoke the same level of strength as Pro Max, I’m all in for it to take over the latter as THE flagship iPhone. It would be a breath of fresh air for sure.
