Instagram Trials Flipside, So You Don't Have To Make A Second Account For Photo Dumps

There’s a good chance that at least one of your friends on Instagram has two accounts – the primary one is for anything more public-facing, while the secondary account only allows close friends access. This is a trend that is referred to as “Finsta”, but now the app is taking the whole account creation out of the process so you can just put your alter ego self on a section that only the selected followers can see.

On paper, this sounds pretty similar to the “Close Friends” feature which already applies to Stories, posts, and Reels. Unsurprisingly, some have found this feature rather redundant – even the head of Instagram Adam Mosseri thinks such a feature isn’t worth adding. “We’re not even sure we’ll launch it on Instagram,” he wrote in a Threads post. “On one hand it feels good to create a clear space that feels more private. On the other, it’s yet another way to reach a smaller audience on top of secondary accounts and Close Friends.”

This feature was originally tested internally back in December, and according to TechCrunch, it was called “Your Space” during the early phase of development. Those who get added to the approved list of followers will see a separate photo grid on the user’s profile labeled with a key icon, which it’ll remain hidden from everyone else. The idea is that Flipside allows users to set a completely separate profile photo, name, and bio.

Pokdepinion: It does sound pretty redundant to me – but then again, people have created secondary accounts for such purposes anyway.
