Threads May Soon Allow You To Delete Accounts While Keeping Instagram Accounts
Remember Instagram and Threads gets tied together and you can’t remove accounts from either platforms individually? Looks like that’s about to change – software dev and leaker Alessandro Paluzzi has revealed that developers over at Thread’s team is working on a feature to allow users deleting their own accounts without affecting the other end.
#Threads is working on the ability to delete your profile 👀

In the screenshots above, users will soon be offered with an option to either deactivate, or delete the account entirely; the former is a temporary measure which only hides the account from anyone else (logging in will reinstate them immediately). On the contrary, deleting account is a permanent action: once confirmed, all data associated with the account will be deleted after 30 days, and Threads noted that one would need to wait for 120 days (or 4 months) in order to re-create the account on the same IG handle.
The feature is not rolled out just yet – but the existence in the code should point to an eventual release at some point in the near future (given how complete the UI has looked based on the screenshots). As for how many users will opt to delete their accounts once this goes live, that will be up to anyone’s guesses – but there definitely is an uphill battle coming towards Meta if the social media giant wants to take on Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter).

Pokdepinion: Expect total user count to fall – but at this point it’s hard to say if people would be enough bothered to actively delete them (as most would simply leave them dormant).
