Given the COVID-19 pandemic, virtually everyone is looking for ways to stay connected with their loved ones. Various apps have grown in popularity immensely, such as Zoom, Houseparty, and Duo. Now, WhatsApp will be looking to take the spotlight once more as they will be vastly improving their group call feature soon.

First seen on WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will be expanding their group call limit to 8 people. It is now available in beta versions of the app across the world. For iOS, it’s version 2.20.50.25 whereas for Android, it’s version 2.20.133.

Several people on Twitter have also shown that the upgrade is now available for them, though we’re uncertain if they meant in the beta or if it’s starting to be available in the public version as well. . This suggests that the feature wouldn’t take long to be made available for everyone to enjoy.

How Does WhatsApp Group Call Compare to the Competition?

In case you’re wondering, Houseparty lets you have up to 8 participants at once whereas Google Duo is higher at 12 participants. Given the sheer number of people using WhatsApp on a daily basis, it would certainly be more convenient to use. It’s worth noting that just because you have the update, doesn’t mean you can immediately use it. For all 8 participants to be in the group call, all of them must have the latest version of the app.

For now, there’s no word on exactly when it will be made available for everyone. We will be reporting more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.

Pokdepinion: With so many people using the app, it would be easier to rely on it. I just kinda wished it could support even more number of people as some families are rather big.
