WhatsApp has officially introduced a highly anticipated feature to make communication even more seamless: voice message transcripts. Voice message transcripts convert audio messages into text directly on your device. This ensures your privacy, as WhatsApp doesn’t have access to your voice messages or transcripts. According to WhatsApp, this feature is designed to help users stay engaged in conversations, no matter what they’re doing.

The feature supports a variety of languages across platforms:

  • Android: English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
  • iOS 16: Adds French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic.
  • iOS 17 and later: Expands further with Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, and Thai.

WhatsApp plans to include even more languages in future updates.

How to Use Voice Message Transcripts

Enabling this feature is simple:

  1. Go to Settings in WhatsApp.
  2. Tap Chats and enable the Voice Message Transcripts option.
  3. To transcribe a voice message, long-press the message and select Transcribe.

The voice message transcription feature is rolling out globally over the coming weeks. Whether you’re multitasking or in a noisy environment, this new addition is set to make WhatsApp more user-friendly than ever.
