Apple has released iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 with enhanced Apple Intelligence featuring new capabilities across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The update introduces tools such as Image Playground, Genmoji, and enhancements to Writing Tools, alongside integration with ChatGPT and expanded language support.

New Apple Intelligence Update

First off is Image Playground: users can create AI-generated visuals with the likeness of a person from existing images, and they can be integrated with apps like Messages, Freeform, and Keynote – it is also available as a standalone app. Likewise, Genmoji lets users generate personalized emojis by describing their desired design or using photos to mix-and-match as needed.

For note taking, Writing Tools gain a new “Describe Your Change” feature, allowing users to refine their text with greater specificity; the Notes also gained the new Image Wand feature that enables the transformation of sketches into polished visuals by leveraging on-device generative models. As an exclusive feature, iPhone 16 users can tap into Visual intelligence (via Camera Control) to obtain instant information about objects and places as soon as it is displayed on the viewfinder.

If you need some external assist, Apple has also provided ChatGPT integration into Siri and Writing Tools across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Siri can suggest and deliver ChatGPT responses for specific requests, while the Compose feature in Writing Tools allows users to generate written content and accompanying images. This is an opt-in feature and you don’t need to sign in for usage, Apple notes – IP addresses are obscured as well to maintain user privacy.

Apple Intelligence is now available as a free update on compatible devices globally (which includes iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro series, iPads with A17 Pro / M1 SoC or newer, or any Mac device with Apple Silicon), with regional rollouts, including localized language support, coming in 2025.
