Apple’s First Southeast Asia-Bound Developer Center Opens In Singapore
Apple has launched its first Developer Center in Singapore to support the developer ecosystem in Southeast Asia, which today is responsible for over 90,000 apps on the App Store, the company says. Located in Singapore’s one-north district, this new facility joins existing Developer Center locations in Cupertino, Bengaluru (Bangalore), and Shanghai.
In 2014, a small group of Singapore-based developers named iOS Dev Scout organized the largest annual event, iOS Conf SG, for the locale’s Apple developers, which has attendance figures in the thousands. Vina Rianti, lead for iOS Dev Scout, said: “We’re super excited to have an Apple Developer Center right here in Singapore within easy reach of developers from around the region. As an iOS software engineer, having direct access to Apple experts and a regular program of in-person activities is truly invaluable.”
Apple’s Developer Center provides a hub for in-person sessions, labs, workshops, and consultations; developers can improve their skills and enhance the quality of their apps across various operating systems. “Southeast Asia is home to many passionate developers who create exceptional apps that empower their local communities and delight customers,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Developer Relations.
“We are thrilled to open the Apple Developer Center Singapore in a region that has prioritized growing a competitive digital economy with highly skilled talent. This center will be a valuable resource for developers from Singapore and its neighboring countries, enabling them to create richer experiences and more impactful apps for their customers. We can’t wait to see how this space will energize the work of our incredible developer community,” she continued.
Setting up a base in Singapore means developers in Southeast Asia should have better access to Apple’s development support facilities, including immediate access to Apple’s expert developers. Developers can browse the full schedule of sessions, labs, workshops, and one-on-one consultations available on the developer center website.
Pokdepinion: With better access to this new facility, I expect the app quality to go up in general for Apple platforms.
