Microsoft Is Fixing A Bug That Inadvertently Uninstalls Copilot From Windows – People Wished It Was A Feature

Despite Microsoft stressing that you can’t uninstall Copilot from your system, a bug from Windows Update recently has proved that you indeed can – except the company doesn’t allow you to do so. This affects (or rather, benefits, if you prefer to look at it that way) users on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems, attributed to two updates dated March 11.

Copilot Goes ‘Poof’

If you look around the internet and see what people think of this update however, most would happily welcome this update and vents their frustration towards Microsoft for the endless promotion and forceful integration of Copilot into many features that often wasn’t asked for. When the top comments in this Reddit post are “I wish this wasn’t a bug” and “the greatest bug in recent memory,” you get the idea just how much people disliked Microsoft’s AI chatbot.

Still, Microsoft officially sees this as a bug and has announced that it’s working on a fix. “We’re aware of an issue with the Microsoft Copilot app affecting some devices. The app is unintentionally uninstalled and unpinned from the taskbar,” the company wrote in its support article. That said, there’s a simple workaround: just re-install it from Microsoft Store and manually pin it to the taskbar.

It’s worth noting that this bug only affects the Copilot app, while the Microsoft 365 Copilot app (which, confusingly, was called ‘Microsoft 365’ and ‘Office 365’ before) remains unaffected by this update mishap.
