Google Drive recently introduced a new “Catch me up” button which does what it says on the tin – provide a quick AI-powered summary on what’s changed in your files since you last viewed them, which can be particularly useful for collaborative work.

Google Drive AI File Summary

To use the feature, there are two methods: look for files in the Drive home page with a colored star icon next to the file name, or click the “Catch me up” button on the top row to let AI generate a general overview of what’s changed in all relevant files. Google says the AI can identify file edits or comments made in Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

If your work involves a lot of collaborative work (i.e. colleagues), this should be a very handy feature; while features already exist to see what’s changed, this AI-based method will be able to quickly provide summaries without going through each menu to check for changes. Still, given that this is AI we’re talking about, errors may occur – expect this disclaimer message to appear each time you use it.

The “Catch me up” feature currently available for English-based content only, and will take up to 15 days for all users to see this new feature (starting from June 3, 2025).
