The HUAWEI Pura 90s series is now available in Malaysia, following their global launch; despite the naming, the smartphone lineup only features Pura 90s Pro and Pura 90s Pro Max models, with no “base” model to speak of (at least for now). Also launched alongside the smartphones is the new HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S open-ear earbuds.
HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro & Pura 90s Pro Max
It should be noted that the original Pura 90 series is China-only, whereas the international versions are designated Pura 90s series. There are no differences in hardware; the changes merely come down to the operating system. Unlike the equivalent models in its home market, the HUAWEI Pura 90s smartphones runs on EMUI 16 based on Android 16, instead of the HarmonyOS equivalents – in other words, it can work with Google services, though some workarounds are still required.
In terms of imaging, the HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro Max includes a 200MP telephoto camera with a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor, 4x optical zoom, optical image stabilization (OIS) and 20x HEX Telephoto Video capability, alongside a 50MP sensor with variable aperture lens offering f/1.4 – f/4.0 aperture, as well as up to 16EV dynamic range for HDR. A third 40MP sensor for ultrawide lens round up the rear camera setup.
The HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro, meanwhile, includes a macro telephoto camera with a 5cm minimum focusing distance and a 12.5MP ultrawide sensor; the main 50MP unit is the same as the Pro Max variant with variable aperture features. Both models include AI imaging features such as AI Composition, AI De-Glare, AI Move and AI Remove, and AI Best Expression. The series also includes a second-generation True-to-Colour Camera intended to improve color accuracy.
Powering both models is the company’s in-house Kirin 9030S octa-core processor, while battery is a 6000mAh unit on both, despite Pro Max’s larger footprint potentially allowing more electrons to fit. Charging-wise, we’re looking at 100W wired and 80W wireless charging for the Pro Max, while the Pro supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. The displays involves 460ppi 120Hz LTPO OLED panels, protected by Kunlun Glass 2; the Pro Max also includes anti-reflective coating on top of that.
Everything else, both models share the same specs. For colors, the Pura 90s Pro Max is available in quite a few summer-themed colorways: Orange Ocean, Blaze Purple, Blush Gold and Graphite Black, with the Orange Ocean variant featuring a Dual-Tone Gradient Mid-Frame design. The Pura 90s Pro is available in Guava Soda, Orange Soda, Mulberry Black and Coconut White.
HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S
Meanwhile, the HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S – known in China as FreeClip 2 Collector’s Edition – is a pair of open-ear earbuds featuring the brand’s “Luminous Aesthetics” design, available in Deepsea Blue and Space Silver finishes. It includes a “Luminous Charging Case” that is dome-shaped, while being very shiny and reflective, although getting smudges on the case are almost a certainty so be prepared for that. The C-bridge is also slightly modified with a smooth surface to improve wear comfort.
The internals are pretty much inherited from the FreeClip 2, meaning the same pair of 10.8mm dual-diaphragm drivers, 3-microphone noise cancellation, IP57-rated dust and water resistance, automatic left-right recognition, head motion controls, touch gestures, and more. Battery life is rated for 9 hours on the earbuds, or 38 hours with the case.
Pricing & Availability
The HUAWEI Pura 90s series is now available at HUAWEI Experience Stores, HUAWEI official website, along with official online stores in Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop, with prices starting from RM3,999 for the standard Pura 90s Pro (12+512GB), while the bigger Pura 90s Pro Max (12+512GB) costs RM4,899. The HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S is priced at RM899 and is available through the same retail channels.
