Three Esports World Cups in a row now. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has topped the viewership table at every one of them. The festival packed its bags for Paris this year, and the result stayed the same. How big was the crowd? The MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) peaked at 2.89 million viewers, going by Esports Charts. Nothing else at the event came close.
Malaysian fans will like the timing. The game has just turned 10. The national team will play for an Asian Games medal within days. And MOONTON Games says nearly one in five people in this country play every month.
Peak Came In The Quarterfinals
Now for the strange part. The tournament’s biggest audience didn’t show up for the final. It showed up for a quarterfinal, ONIC against Aurora Gaming. The Grand Final between Team Spirit and Yangon Galacticos only ranked as the fifth most-watched match.
Esports Charts blames the bracket, and I can’t argue with that. The Group Stage knocked out both of last year’s finalists. Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia sent no team to the title match. Take away the sides that the three biggest fan bases support, and interest peaks early.
A Champion From Outside The Region
Team Spirit swept Team Vamos, swept ONIC and then won the final 4-3. MOONTON Games confirmed that no team from outside Southeast Asia had ever won an official international MLBB major before them. Runners-up Yangon Galacticos beat PRO Esports and Team Falcons PH to get that far.
The 2.89 million peak landed a little below 2025, when Insider Gaming says the MSC hit 3 million. Esports Charts still ranked MSC 2026 as the third most popular esports event of the year in its mid-August report. MLBB tournaments took first and second as well.
How Other Games Did
Insider Gaming published the final EWC figures on 27 August and based them on Esports Charts data. Hours watched? MLBB racked up 45.27 million. Next came PUBG Mobile, whose 1.79 million peak was the best that game has managed in five years. League of Legends got to 1.48 million. Counter-Strike 2 just scraped past the million mark with 1.04 million. And that was it. More than 20 tournaments ran in Paris, yet only these four saw a seven-figure peak.
MLBB and PUBG Mobile share space outside esports too. Buyacc, an independent game account marketplace, lists both of them alongside the strategy title Last War.
Strong Numbers At Home
Malaysia still ranks among the game’s core markets. On 3 September, MOONTON Games announced that Malaysians had downloaded MLBB more than 90 million times in total, and that nearly one in five of them play it monthly. ChipsMore! got in on the act as well. The publisher announced that partnership two days before, on 1 September.
Zoom out to the whole world and the publisher’s tally reads 1.5 billion installations. Some 110 million people play each month, in 80-plus countries. A player base that large supports all sorts of activity around the game, including third-party marketplaces that list MLBB accounts independently of the publisher.
Record Holder In Mobile Esports
The EWC figure doesn’t even rank as MLBB’s biggest number this year. In January, the M7 World Championship drew more than 5.68 million peak concurrent viewers. MOONTON Games cites Esports Charts figures showing that no mobile esports tournament has ever drawn more. The publisher also says MLBB has led all mobile esports titles in viewership every year since 2021.
Anniversary Rewards Are Live
Prefer playing to watching? You’ve got plenty to do. MOONTON Games launched the ALL IN MLBB anniversary campaign on 4 September. A Celebration Pass offers a new Epic skin for Nana until 1 November. The Anniversary Gala Weekend opens on 25 September and lets you choose from 265 skins. Layla’s Stellar Gala follows from 9 October, and returning players can claim a free skin.
What Is Next
Mark 29 September in your calendar. That’s when the Asian Games Main Stage kicks off at Aichi Sky Expo in Japan, and it wraps up on 1 October. Malaysia drew Group B. So did Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. Three teams, and one of them won’t make it out. Yums and Cikugais lead the national squad.
The format leaves no slack. Group matches are best-of-three. Lose in the knockouts, and you’re out- no second chances. Then comes the Grand Final on 1 October, a best-of-seven. MOONTON Games will also give out a free recall effect, avatar border, and emoji in-game for the occasion.
January then brings the M8 World Championship in Istanbul. MOONTON Games has widened the Wild Card stage to a record 10 teams, and three of them will reach the 16-team Main Stage.
