vivo has officially introduced OriginOS 7, now based on Android 17; the new OS update is focusing on system performance, multitasking, cross-ecosystem connectivity, and an AI agent called Jovi. It is also said to be engineered to maintain responsiveness over time, with the smartphone maker stating it has been validated through a 72-month “anti-aging” test in company labs.
OriginOS 7 To Debut On vivo X500 Series
At the core of the update is the next-generation Origin Smooth Engine, which vivo describes as a redesign of graphics computation, memory management, and system scheduling. Its Ultra-Core Computing component dynamically allocates processing resources during demanding tasks such as gaming or heavy multitasking, which results in a 10% reduction in app cold start time and an 11% improvement in app page switching speed.
A separate Memory Fusion component rebuilds the kernel file system and memory management architecture, contributing to 60% greater memory reclamation and up to 25GB of additional freed storage on a 256GB device. A new Dual Rendering pipeline is claimed to improve rendering efficiency by 14.4%. vivo says these changes are meant to complement a new multitasking feature called Origin Workbench, which allows up to five active applications to run within a unified task space on a standard smartphone form factor, such as exporting video footage while referencing notes and messaging simultaneously.
Motion across the interface is handled through Origin Animation, which applies physics-based effects including Fluid Motion (liquid-like stretching and bouncing of interface elements) and Spring Animation (a unified motion profile applied system-wide). In other words, another Liquid Glass clone. On the customization side, the new update adds interactive lock and home screen options, including Wiggle Theme, Glint Theme, StickIt collage layouts, and Pet Pals, an animated companion theme that responds to device motion and usage.
OriginOS 7 also extends native support for third-party devices, allowing Apple Watch to display notifications and sync health data into the Origin Health app, and AirPods to connect with battery status shown in Origin Island alongside Spatial Audio support. Through vivo Office Kit, users can hand off tasks and files between their phone and iPad, Mac, or Windows devices, while iCloud content becomes accessible directly within the vivo File Manager.
The update also introduces Jovi as a cross-device AI agent that coordinates tasks between connected phones and PCs, such as retrieving a spreadsheet from a home computer, summarizing it, and delivering the results to the smartphone. Jovi supports scheduled tasks, including compiling recurring reports, and includes a Snap Note feature that converts photos of whiteboards or handwritten notes into editable text documents. vivo says autonomous actions taken by Jovi are logged and subject to user authorization through a feature called Jovi Security.
For Malaysian users, the vivo X500 Series will be the first to ship with OriginOS 7 out of the box; the update will subsequently roll out to other X Series models, followed by the V Series and Y Series in later phases. No specific dates for individual model updates have been confirmed at this stage.
