Nothing OS 5.0 is now rolling out to the public, starting with the Phone (3), as the London-based brand begins its biggest software update to date. The update brings over 80 changes spanning design, personalization, performance, and AI, all built on top of Android 17. More Nothing and CMF smartphones will receive the update over the coming months.
Nothing OS 5.0 Features
The general rollout of Nothing OS 5.0 introduces several features on top of what was already available through the Open Beta. The redesigned Home Screen now features transparent details across widgets and the search bar, paired with an adaptive color system that pulls from the user’s wallpaper to create a more cohesive visual experience.
A new Micrographics clock face is also making its debut, bringing a hardware-inspired Lock Screen design that consolidates the date, time, weather, and upcoming calendar meetings into a single glanceable view. Additionally, further improvements to Essential Space will be delivered via Google Play alongside the general release.
Nothing OS 5.0 arrives with a refreshed visual identity that touches icons, spacing, animations, the status bar, Settings, Camera, and Gallery. The Geist typeface is now used throughout the system for a more consistent look. New widgets include Collector, which lets users build visual collections of favorite objects, and Away Time, which tracks time spent away from the screen. Home Screen editing has also been improved to allow multiple apps and widgets to be moved simultaneously.
On the performance side, Nothing OS 5.0 delivers improved touch response, better background app retention, and more efficient system resource management. Animations across apps, folders, widgets, and multitasking have also been refined. The AI suite has received new upgrades: Essential Voice now offers faster and cleaner transcription, Essential Space gains Smart Collections, and Essential Apps Builder is now available directly on the device, allowing users to describe, build, and deploy AI-powered apps without writing any code.
Being built on Android 17, Nothing OS 5.0 also inherits platform-level additions including separate Notifications and Quick Settings panels, cross-platform Quick Share, enhanced privacy controls, and a redesigned Recents screen.
