Apple announced the next generation of Apple TV 4K (4th Generation), featuring its in-house A19 chip (found in the iPhone 17) and supports a four-speaker surround sound arrangement with HomePod mini 2 or 2nd generation HomePod. It also continues to serve as a home hub for Apple Home accessories.
Apple TV 4K (4th Generation) Highlights
The A19 chip delivers up to 50% faster CPU performance and up to 2x faster GPU performance than the previous generation, according to Apple, for quicker navigation and smoother animations. It also includes a dedicated AV1 decoder, which is supported by Netflix and the likes to improve quality per bitrate, or equivalent quality with lower bandwidth usage.
The Siri Remote keeps its existing design but adds Find My support with Precision Finding, along with an option to play a sound to locate it. Precision Finding requires a compatible iPhone, and the play-a-sound function is exclusive to the newest Siri Remote. For the first time, users can build a four-speaker surround setup using Apple TV 4K (4th generation) with HomePod mini 2 – the speakers detect their position in the room and calibrate audio timing and levels automatically. Second-gen HomePod units can also be used, provided the front and rear speaker pairs match.
As a home hub, the device lets users control smart home accessories remotely. With a compatible doorbell, notifications appear on the TV so users can see and speak to visitors or unlock the door without interrupting playback. It supports automations, guest mode and local processing of HomeKit Secure Video, and has built-in Wi-Fi and Thread.
Other features include Apple Fitness+, Apple Arcade, FaceTime through Continuity Camera and customizable iCloud photo screen savers, including a new shuffle option. Apple says Secure Exclaves on the A19 chip process microphone data separately from the rest of the system.

Pokdepinion: Four-speaker surround from HomePod minis is a neat trick, provided you got the money to buy them all.
