Is the Realme 2 Pro the perfect device for the youthful you?
The affordable mid-range market segment is about to heat up very soon with the Realme 2 Pro arriving here in Malaysia. While local pricing has yet to be confirmed, we can safely speculate that it should be price pretty similarly here as it is in Indonesia like its OPPO counterpart, the OPPO F9. Priced at RM1099, you should definitely consider the Realme 2 Pro if you are searching for an affordable yet capable device, without sacrificing on style.
The Realme 2 Pro is built out of plastic, but it surely isn’t your run-of-the-mill cheap-looking plastics here. Realme successfully worked the plastic to make it look amazingly good, with a matte finish for the edges and a translucent glossy finish for the back. It is crafted with a 15-layer lamination technology for a unique premium look without resorting to weird patterns.
Over on the front is the dewdrop notch, which allows the Realme 2 Pro to achieve a screen-to-body (STB) ratio of 90.8%. That’s an STB ratio that manufacturers would be proud of in their much pricier flagships! And yet here we are looking at the huge 6.3″ 1080p+ IPS display in the Realme 2 Pro with absolutely minimal bezels. Realme managed to cram a 16MP selfie camera, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and an earpiece, all in that tiny notch.
Another thing that we love about the Realme 2 Pro is the excellent hardware in it. Realme didn’t skimp on the components in it despite targeting the affordable segment. You get a powerful Snapdragon 660 AIE, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a large 3500 mAh battery. And unlike similarly priced devices, the Realme 2 Pro comes with snappy 128GB UFS storage instead of the cheaper and slower eMMC 5.1 storage. As Realme is targeting youths like you with the Realme 2 Pro, you won’t have to worry about gaming performance, as the Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset handles gaming with aplomb.
The dual rear camera uses the 16MP Sony IMX398 behind a wide f/1.7 aperture. The sensor is pretty promising with 1.12 µm pixels and Dual Pixel autofocus for quick phase detection autofocus. The secondary camera is there for no other purpose than enhancing portraits with bokeh effects, and the Realme 2 Pro takes advantage of it to offer several portrait lighting modes. There’s also 16 AI scenes to help you out when you aren’t just taking portraits. For selfie fans, there’s the 16MP f/2.0 up front, complete with features like AR stickers to make your selfies that much more interesting.
With an estimated price of around RM1000, the Realme 2 Pro is a really interesting device that offers value above its price point. Despite it being a somewhat new brand, Realme definitely has a lot to offer to us Malaysians!
