Sime Darby Beyond Auto has officially unveiled the BYD Seal Dynamic in Malaysia, rounding out the lineup for the popular electric sedan. Offering a more affordable entry point into BYD’s EV range, this new variant is set to attract attention, especially for those seeking a value-for-money alternative to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
2024 BYD Seal Dynamic
Priced at RM163,800, the BYD Seal Dynamic is RM16,000 cheaper than the Premium variant (RM179,800) and a full RM36,000 less than the top-tier Performance model (RM199,800). This makes the Dynamic variant a strong contender against similarly priced sedans like the Honda Civic RS eand the Mazda 3, providing a fully electric alternative at a competitive price point.
Despite its lower price, the BYD Seal Dynamic retains many premium features from the higher-end models. These include:
- LED headlights
- LED daytime running lights
- LED tail lights
- Retractable door handles
- Panoramic roof
However, one difference is the wheel setup. The Dynamic comes with 18-inch alloy wheels paired with 225/50 Giti Comfort tyres, compared to the 19-inch wheels and 235/45 Continental EcoContact 6 Q tyres found on the Premium and Performance models.
The exterior color choices are also more limited, with only Cosmos Black and Aurora White available, unlike the wider range offered for the higher-end variants.
Under the hood, the BYD Seal Dynamic is powered by a single electric motor delivering 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. This setup mirrors the output of the BYD Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin Premium Extended Range models. With a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds, it offers a performance edge over similar petrol-powered sedans like the Honda Civic.
The Seal Dynamic is equipped with a 61.4kWh Blade lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a driving range of up to 460 km (WLTP). In comparison, the Premium and Performance models boast larger 82.5kWh batteries.
One area where the Seal Dynamic differs is its charging capabilities. While all BYD Seal variants come with a 7kW onboard charger for AC charging, the smaller battery in the Dynamic results in faster charging times. A full charge takes 8.6 hours, compared to the over 15 hours needed for the Premium and Performance models.
However, DC fast charging is limited to 110kW on the Dynamic, enabling a 30-80% charge in 32 minutes. In contrast, the Premium and Performance variants support up to 150kW for faster DC charging.
The BYD Seal Dynamic shares the same dimensions as its more expensive counterparts:
- Length: 4,800 mm
- Width: 1,875 mm
- Height: 1,460 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,920 mm
Despite being lighter at 1,922 kg compared to the Premium (2,055 kg) and Performance (2,185 kg) models, the Dynamic still offers the same 400 litres of boot space in the rear and 50 litres in the front.
Inside, the BYD Seal Dynamic maintains a premium feel with faux leather upholstery and the same high-tech features found in the more expensive variants:
- 15.6-inch central touchscreen with switchable landscape/portrait orientation
- 10.25-inch digital instrument panel
- 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system
Additionally, it includes all the comfort features found in the Premium model, such as:
- Ventilated and heated powered seats
- Dual-zone air-conditioning
- Keyless entry and start
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Two wireless mobile chargers
Pokdepinion: The BYD Seal Dynamic is a well-rounded electric sedan that offers plenty of high-end features and performance for its price. It provides an attractive alternative for buyers looking around for a C-segment sedan who are potentially open to moving to EVs.
