Anker 535 is a Fire Hazard?

Anker 535 Powerbanks Are Being Recalled Over Fire Safety Risk

Anker, a popular manufacturer of mobile accessories, has recently issued a recall for its 535 powerbank, also known as PowerCore 20K, due to a fault in the manufacturing process. The powerbank has a model number of A1366 and a recall has been initiated as a result of a “manufacturing condition” that has caused “a small number” of the devices to overheat and pose a fire safety risk.

The company is voluntarily recalling all of the affected battery packs, and is working with local government agencies to do so. While it’s not clear when the recall notice was put up, it has already been linked to a house fire in Leitersburg, Maryland, in the US, as reported by Herald-Mail Media. The battery pack was stored inside a suitcase with nothing connected to it, and was last used about a week before the incident. The suitcase was destroyed, but the fire was contained to the bedroom it was in.

According to Anker, the 535 powerbank “met all applicable industry standards prior to its sale” in multiple countries, including Malaysia. The defect was discovered later, prompting the recall. Owners of the Anker 535 powerbank are advised to stop using the device, store it in a safe location, and dispose of it at a facility that accepts Lithium batteries. The affected customers can also fill a form to obtain a refund. The Anker flagship store on Shopee currently lists the affected battery pack at RM449.

Pokdepinion: If you own this powerbank, stop using it immediately. Anker is a good brand but unfortunately, these things just happens.
