Nikon Z8 Officially Debuts In Malaysia: Flagship In Smaller Package
Futuromic Photo AV Sdn. Bhd. (Nikon’s Malaysian distributor) has introduced the latest Nikon hybrid mirrorless camera, the Z8, into the local markets. The Z8 is effectively a mini Z9 with most features carried over into a smaller body – 30% smaller to be exact, and weighs in at 910g, according to Nikon’s figures.
The camera comes with a variety of video formats to choose from, from the loseless 12-bit N-RAW and Apple ProRes RAW, 10-bit Apple ProRes 422 HQ down to mainstream 8-bit H.265; with resolutions up to 8K30 or 4K120 available for different shooting scenarios. The onboard full-size HDMI connector supports HDMI 2.1 standard, which is also compatible with HLG-enabled 8K monitors. It also comes with two USB ports, one for charging and the other for data delivery.
The Z8 also comes with Pre-Release Capture and High-Speed Frame Capture+ that allows recording of one second before full shutter button press, as well as 4 seconds after it. The AF is capable of detect human face with as little as 3% of the frame, which Nikon touts is the smallest to date.
Computational photography is also one of the feature of the Z8 – when a human face is detected, the post-processing can soften the skin in photo, videos as well as live streaming, on top of that, the camera will take care of the color balance and white balance to reduce editing time for more novice users.
The body itself is a carbon-fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) made with Sereebo P series materials, which can withstand temperature as low as -10°C and comes with limited ingress protection, though no IP rating has been published for this model. The VR (vibration reduction) lock also protects the image sensor when the camera is powered off to prevent accidental damages.
The Nikon Z8 will be sold at a price of RM18,338 with the body-only configuration; or RM22,608 with 24-120mm f/4 lens included.
Pokdepinion: The smaller size definitely helps with portability given cameras of this class are not quite the small ones.
