Sony has introduced the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G lens, with the new model being the first fisheye zoom G Lens designed for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras. The lens covers a zoom range from 8mm to 14mm, spanning circular fisheye at the wide end to diagonal fisheye at 14mm, and is aimed at landscape, architecture, sports and video production use.

The FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G offers a range of fisheye perspectives within a single lens. At 8mm, it captures circular fisheye images with a 180-degree angle of view projected as a circular frame on a full-frame sensor. At 14mm, it shifts to diagonal fisheye, covering the full frame with a 180-degree diagonal angle of view, allowing users to adjust composition and perspective based on subject across landscapes, architecture, sports and video work.

The lens incorporates ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements in its optical design to suppress chromatic and other aberrations while maintaining resolution across the zoom range. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 15cm and a maximum magnification of 0.22x at the telephoto end, allowing for close-up fisheye shots in both photography and video.

The lens measures approximately 63.1mm in maximum diameter and 82.8mm in length, weighing around 314g, which Sony said supports handheld, gimbal and rig-based shooting. An inner zoom mechanism is used to minimize shifts in the center of gravity during zooming.

When two units of the lens are used alongside the VENICE Extension System Mini, the optical axes are positioned approximately 64mm apart, close to the average human interpupillary distance, supporting spatial content production with a natural sense of depth for applications such as virtual reality (VR).

The lens is designed to deliver fast, precise autofocus alongside Linear Response manual focus, with focus breathing suppressed and quiet operation intended for video production. Physical controls include a focus mode switch, zoom lock switch, and an aperture ring with switchable click stops. The lens also features a dust and moisture-resistant design, along with a fluorine coating on the front element for outdoor use.

The Sony FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G will be available from late September 2026, priced at RM6,399.

Pokdepinion: A fisheye zoom that also doubles for VR content production is a nice bit of versatility for creators.
