Sony World Photography Awards 2024 Finalists Unveiled
The World Photography Organisation announces the finalists and shortlisted photographers for the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 Professional competition, recognizing outstanding narrative and technical mastery. With over 395,000 submissions from 220+ countries, this year marks the highest number of entries on record for this competition to date.
The annual Sony-sponsored event is in its 17th running this year since the inaugural event in 2007, offering photographers of the world a chance to present their work. The competition is on a free-to-enter basis, where outstanding works are recognized through various awards.
The Photographer of the Year 2024 winner, to be revealed on April 18, will receive $25,000 (USD), a range of Sony imaging equipment, and a solo presentation of their work as part of the following year’s Sony World Photography Awards exhibition, offering opportunities for advancements to their photography career. Selected works will be showcased at Somerset House from April 19 to May 6, 2024, with subsequent travel to various locations.
Commenting on behalf of the jury, Chair of the Jury, Monica Allende says: “The jury was captivated by the passionate storytelling; capturing both the joys and the challenges of human existence across our planet. We were thrilled by the diverse, high-quality, and creative spectrum of photography styles on display.”
Three finalists are chosen under ten categories, including Architecture & Design, Creative, Documentary Projects, Environment, Landscape, Portfolio, Portraiture, Sport, Still Life, and Wildlife & Nature. The five-panel judge, led by Allende, will decide the winners.
