Per report from 91mobiles, US regulatory body FCC (Federal Communications Commission) have spoiled ASUS’s upcoming ROG Ally 2 with new images of the handheld in full, showcasing a very different handheld design compared to previous models.
ROG Ally 2 Revealed

The images reveal two colors of the new ROG handheld, and the most obvious change in appearance is the new grip shape that somewhat resembles a real Xbox controller. Aesthetically, it’s probably less attractive than the original model, but perhaps this is the tradeoff in order to improve ergonomics. There is also a distinct feature on the black version – a dedicated Xbox button. In fact, a leaker suggested that the full name of the device may be ROG Ally 2 Xbox Edition, especially given that Xbox’s social media has seemingly hinted at this possibility.

Besides that, the specs list also reveals some of the hardware specs in two versions of the ROG Ally 2, using the model number RC73XA (black version) and RC73YA (white version). The former’s CPU OPN code traces it back to AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, featuring 8 cores along with Radeon 890M graphics onboard featuring 16 RDNA 3.5-based Compute Units. Besides that, it’ll also feature 64GB of LPDDR5X-8533 memory (quite overkill), 2TB SSD storage, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, along with a 7-inch 120Hz display.

As for the RC73YA, there are less information available. Still, the CPU is deciphered to be a 4-core AMD Aerith Plus chip based on the silicon that powers Valve’s Steam Deck (a custom AMD Zen 2 & RDNA2-based chip codenamed Aerith), and the battery capacity is listed as 60Wh, which is smaller than that of the Ally X, but larger than the original Ally handheld. It also features 1TB SSD and Wi-Fi 6E, as evidenced by the respective model numbers listed.
It is known thus far that ASUS has registered the new handheld in at least three countries – US, South Korea (via RRA), and Indonesia. We may even see the ROG Ally 2 in action when Computex 2025 kicks off later this May, so you might want to keep your eyes peeled for this one.
Pokdepinion: Honestly the looks could’ve been better, but if that means better ergonomics, I guess it’s a worthwhile tradeoff?
