[CES 2024] ASUS Brings Redesigned ROG Zephyrus Lineup, ROG Strix Laptops Get Refresh
ASUS Brings Redesigned ROG Zephyrus Lineup, ROG Strix Laptops Get Refresh
ASUS’s gaming laptop roster for the CES 2024 consists of two families, namely the refreshed ROG Strix lineup, and all-new ROG Zephyrus G models that see its first major redesign since its inception back in 2020.
First off, the new ROG Zephyrus lineup – Zephyrus G14 and Zephyrus G16, is now even lighter and thinner; and it’s accompanied by a more minimalist look. Gone is the full-size AniMe Matrix or perforations, and the new design features a single design element that involves a big diagonal ‘Slash Lighting’ across the lid of both laptops. There’s also a new color option called Platinum White, accompanied by the traditional Eclipse Gray seen in prior designs.
In terms of dimensions, the 14-inch model comes in at 1.5kg and 15.9mm thick, whereas the 16-inch model is 1.85kg, though even thinner – at just 14.9mm. Both laptops also come with one of the very first implementations of G-SYNC OLED panels: surprisingly, this was previously not achievable due to the way OLED panels work. ASUS has worked with both NVIDIA and panel supplier Samsung to sync the panel’s pixel emission rate up to 960Hz, matching the panel refresh rate (in multipliers).
As usual, the G14 continues to utilize AMD’s processors, and this time around it’ll come packed with the latest Ryzen 8000 series APUs paired with NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop GPU (90W TGP), cooled through liquid metal on the CPU and a tri-fan system that uses the 2nd Gen Arc Flow fan blade design. Meanwhile, the G16 gets the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H and up to NVIDIA’s flagship RTX 4090 Laptop GPU (115W TGP), with a more traditional dual-fan + vapor chamber design to cool things down.
Aside from Zephyrus, the ROG Strix lineup is also getting new internals. The first refresh of the redesign introduced last year will bring the very first 18-inch ROG Nebula HDR display, with a new 2000-zone MiniLED panel delivering up to 1,100 nits of peak brightness to both the Strix SCAR 16 and Strix SCAR 18. All four models will get the same 16:10 QHD+ resolution at 240Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color space, plus the new 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX responsible for compute duty. Memory has also been upgraded with DDR5-5600 modules – though select models will be limited to DDR5-5200 speeds.
ASUS says the new ROG laptops will be arriving in Malaysia starting this January 19th. No pricing information has been provided at this writing.
Pokdepinion: 14.9mm – that’s as thin as Zenbooks!
