According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone SE line is set to make a comeback. Kuo reports that the upcoming iPhone SE will utilize the same chassis as the iPhone 14, sporting a 6.1-inch OLED display, the first in the SE lineup to do so. The OLED panel is expected to be manufactured by BOE.

Kuo also notes that the next iPhone SE will be the first to incorporate Apple’s in-house developed 5G baseband chip. The chip, which is expected to support only Sub6 5G and not mmWave, will be manufactured on a 4nm process. The iPhone SE will serve as a test for the chip, with any issues likely to appear in the more affordable model before their usual mainstream models later in the year.

Although it remains unclear whether the iPhone 16 series in 2024 will also use Apple’s 5G chip, Kuo notes that the chip will need to support mmWave and satellite communications to be featured in the Pro iPhones. Production for the next iPhone SE is expected to begin in the first half of 2024. As Apple continues to shift away from Qualcomm modems, the company’s business with Qualcomm is expected to decline significantly in the next few years.

Pokdepinion: Well, it was either killing off the SE permanently or making the base model as affordable as possible if they want to catch as many consumers as possible. Honestly, I’d rather have the SE stay as even the previous ones were a viable option.
