iQOO 12 5G Debuts In Malaysia, First Smartphone To Feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
vivo’s gaming sub-brand, iQOO, today debuts its newest flagship model – the iQOO 12 5G. The smartphone’s debut also introduces the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC for the first time in Malaysia. Like its parent brand’s flagship, it also comes with a co-processor, this time named “Supercomputing Chip Q1”, and is designed for frame upscaling and generation (similar to NVIDIA DLSS).
As a gaming smartphone, the iQOO 12 5G packs plenty: the SD8G3 chip itself comes with a 1+5+2 core layout, with one Cortex-X4 prime core, five Cortex-A720 performance cores, and two Cortex-A520 efficiency cores. It’s paired with Adreno 750 GPU, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The display is a 144Hz QHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel with 1,400 nits of HBM (high brightness mode) brightness, with a searingly bright 3,000 nits local peak brightness. It also packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 120W Flashcharge.
Cooling-wise, the smartphone utilizes the “6K vapour chamber four-zone cooling system”, which integrates a graphite cooling film directly under the display to even out the hot spots coming out of the SoC’s position inside the chassis. Then, there’s the Supercomputing Chip Q1 – it’s responsible for making sure the games can hit the 144FPS native framerate by using frame interpolation. The upscaling feature, meanwhile, boosts the effective internal resolution from 720p to 900p for sharper details.
On the camera department, it comes with three sensors: the primary 50MP “Astrogtaphy” camera with OIS+EIS, 4-to-1 pixel binning, and 8K30 recording capabilities; the 64MP telephoto that does 3x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and 100x digital zoom – the latter of which uses something called NICE (Neural Image Computational Engine) algorithm to reduce image noise; and finally a 50MP ultrawide lens that uses 1/2.76″ sensor.
Continuing its collaboration with BMW M Motorsport, the iQOO 12 5G will feature in two colorways: Legend (white) and Alpha (black). The Legend variant comes with the iconic BMW tri-color stripe that you see on BMW’s M cars. The smartphone also features IP64 ingress protection (splash resistant) and comes at a relatively thin 8.1mm with 203.7g of weight. Want one? It’s now available at the price of RM3,399 and can be purchased through vivo E-store, Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.
Pokdepinion: Plenty of big numbers here – should be quite the powerhouse.
