Samsung’s foldable lineup consists of flip phone-style Z Flip and the clamshell type Z Fold lineup, the latter of which has seen very little design update in the recent years. While that is still somewhat true to the upcoming model, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, there’s a crucial change in the chassis that should be very welcomed by many: no more folding gaps.

In the image published by MySmartPrice which features what looks like promotional images for the Z Fold 5, the phone can be seen both in unfolded state, and folded state – sitting behind the unfolded phone. The gap is no longer present in the image, and it also comes with a new blue color option.

The existing design for the Z Fold series, which traces back to the very first Galaxy Fold model, has seen the company utilizing a fold mechanism that resembles to a horseshoe-style folding mechanism that sees the hinge side slightly wider than the edge, with a small gap near the hinge that allowed outside elements such as dust and lint to accumulate when placed inside pockets. Other manufacturers has already proved that closing the folding gap is possible, and has already entered mass production for some time.

The website also noted that Samsung has already sent invites for the Unpacked event in Seoul, set for July 26th; and in August 11th it will be launched in US and Canada markets, as part of the global launch. The same event should also see the Galaxy Z Flip 5 being announced as well.

(Note: Samsung has requested to remove the image until further notice.)

Pokdepinion: That gap probably should’ve been gone way before this – but better late than never.
