Sony Updates Its Smartphone Lineup With XPERIA 1 V & XPERIA 10 V

The latest flagship features a world-first stacked CMOS sensor design.

The new Sony XPERIA 1 V‘s main 24mm shooter, dubbed Exmor T for Mobile, is a world-first with 2-layer Transistor Pixel stacked CMOS sensors that measures 1.7x larger than the predecessor. Alongside the main camera is the 85-125mm (f/2.3-f/2.8) variable zoom lens, which is first featured in XPERIA 1 IV last year; as well as a 16mm ultrawide lens. Some of the features from the company’s mirrorless Alpha line of cameras such as Creative Look and various real-time tracking AF gets transferred to the smartphone.

Sony also took account for the creator crowd with a new Product Showcase mode, which puts focus on the product instead of the presenter’s face during recording, a new ‘voice priority mic’ is also placed next to the rear camera modules. It also comes with YouTube integration through the Videography Pro app which allows the user to view comments in real-time.

It also features Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a 6.5-inch 4K 120Hz OLED display, and is still rated for 20 hours of continuous playback at this resolution thanks to the 5,000mAh battery onboard. It features wireless charging and wired fast charging support, which tops up 50% in 30 minutes; Sony says the “unique charging optimization technology” helps retaining 80% of the battery’s lifespan after 3 years of usage. The XPERIA 1 V will go on sale nationwide starting 3rd July 2023, with SRP of RM6,399.

Meanwhile, the mid-range XPERIA 10 V is touted as the “world’s lightest 5G smartphone” at just 159 grams of weight. It still manages to fit 5,000mAh into a very light chassis, which provides “approximately 34 hours” of continuous video playback. The device measures at just 6.1 inches, which also makes it extra skinny thanks to the 21:9 aspect ratio and uses a FHD+ OLED panel with 50% more brightness than the outgoing XPERIA 10 IV.

The triple-camera setup features a 26mm main shooter (f/1.8), 16mm ultrawide (f/2.2) and 54mm telephoto (f/2.2) lens. The main 26mm shooter uses a new sensor that’s 1.6x bigger in size than the predecessor, and it also features OIS+EIS to help with dark environments (where shutter speed takes longer and often requires stabilization). The device itself also features IP68 ingress protection as well as Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the front display. The new XPERIA 10 V will be available in Lavender and Black, with launch in early August 2023 with the SRP of RM2,199.

Pokdepinion: Maybe I’m minority here, but I seriously applaud Sony for sticking to a proven design and still keep all the hardware features.
