Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro announced in Malaysia from RM2899 — here’s all you need to know about them!
Xiaomi has just made the Xiaomi 12 series official in the global market, and we are one of the first markets to receive it as well. Xiaomi Malaysia announced the pricing for the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro here in Malaysia, and they do look like quite the deal, considering that the Xiaomi 12 starts from just RM2899, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro will start from RM3899.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1!
The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro will both pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the fastest mobile chipset that Qualcomm has to offer. Based on a new 4nm process, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 features up to 20% faster CPU performance, and 30% higher graphics performance. Aside from raw performance, you also get to take advantage of enhanced imaging capabilities, AI and also upgraded connectivity with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powering the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro devices.
Xiaomi 12: a “compact” flagship
It’s quite odd that we are now calling a 6.28″ device a “compact” device, when just a few years ago we would probably be teasing it about its girth. The Xiaomi 12 offers a smaller option for those who want a flagship experience, without the size and weight that recent flagships has quite prodigiously gained, for some reason. You still get the full 120Hz experience, but the OLED panel here is of a lesser FHD+ variety, and you are also limited to just 1100 nits of brightness. Covering it is the latest and most durable glass from Corning, Gorilla Glass Victus.
Over on the back, you have a trio of cameras that comprises of the main 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor behind the wide lens, a 13MP ultra-wide shooter and a 5MP telemacro camera. There’s also wireless charging here, with support for 50W fast wireless charging and also 10W reverse wireless charging to juice up your earbuds in a jiffy. Wired charging tops out at 67W, and the battery powering the Xiaomi 12 is a decently sized unit at 4500mAh.

Xiaomi 12 Pro: triple 50MP cameras
The Xiaomi 12 Pro offers few but major upgrades over the Xiaomi 12, with the main one being the camera setup. The Xiaomi 12 Pro features a similar triple rear-camera arrangement, but instead of a 13MP ultra-wide and 5MP telemacro camera, we have here instead a trio of 50MP cameras. Yup, Xiaomi went all out and equipped the Xiaomi 12 Pro with not only a primary 50MP Sony IMX707, which is already a step up from the Xiaomi 12’s Sony IMX766, but also crammed in 50MP telephoto and 50MP ultra-wide cameras.
The charging speed has also been bumped up to 120W, although the battery size has only marginally increased to 4600mAh, or the same capacity as last year’s Xiaomi Mi 11. The screen is not only larger at 6.73″, but it is also more advanced with the ability to scale from 1Hz to 120Hz, while also touting a higher WQHD+ resolution and 1500 nits peak brightness. Xiaomi bumped up the audio chops too, with a quad-speaker setup for even more impressive audio. Still no headphone jack though.
