A new Netflix in-house game studio has been officially announced, with a familiar face helming the ship and a familiar place to start.

Netflix Strengthening Their Hold in the Gaming Space

Netflix Pushes Spatial Audio Support to All Stereo Devices Worldwide

After acquiring three other game studios, Netflix has finally launched their own in-house game studio. This new studio will be based in Helsinki, Finland and helmed by the previous GM of Zynga Helsinki, Marko Lastikka. The reason why this location was chosen is because it’s where the previously acquired Next Games studio was located before.

They will likely be using this new in-house game studio to strengthen their hold in the mobile gaming space but since this is still very new, it will likely take some time to launch new mobile games for people to enjoy. Don’t be surprised if it takes years since games development is a rather tedious process.

From what we understand thus far, Netflix is planning to deliver “a variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games with no ads and no in-app purchases” to their hundreds of millions of subscribers all over the world. This may seem rather odd since they are going to launch an ad-supported tier for their video streaming service but hey, it’s still something worth looking out for.

Pokdepinion: With such a strong name backing these studios up, it will give much needed publicity to some new games, especially in the mobile space where it’s so saturated.
