Nintendo Switch to support AMD FSR

With the Nintendo Switch Sports game slated to debut on April 29th, a Twitter user by the name of NWPlayer123 has recently discovered that the Nintendo Switch might support AMD FSR, either at launch or at a later update.

FSR found in Nintendo Switch user agreement

She noted that the user agreement for Nintendo Switch has indicated the game features AMD FidelityFX and FidelityFX Super-Resolution license but does not explain how the FSR would be used in the game, unless on TV where high resolution is required (1080p).

The Nintendo Switch was built with the NVIDIA Tegra chip, which does not support Tensor-powered Deep Learning Super Sampling technology (NVIDIA DLSS). NVIDIA offers Image Sharpening (NIS) tech for PC users even though Nintendo developers have allegedly chosen a more sophisticated approach when designing the game despite both NIS and FSR being open-source now.

Yesterday, Valve enabled FSR for its Steam Deck, which will allow all games to be available through Gamescope. The Nintendo Switch was long rumoured to receive a hardware upgrade that would bring 4K DLSS output in TV mode but these rumours have been unfounded as the company had released an OLED model with nearly identical specs. The console would still rely on Tegra X1 SoC with 256 CUDA cores in Maxwell framework.

Nintendo Switch Sport is a set of curated games where players can play with Nintendo Joy-Con controllers in sports like Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton, Chambara (swordplay) and Golf (in fall update). The game has not yet been released but will soon begin its Online Play Test (February 19).

Pokdepinion: The more I see this type of information on the Nintendo Switch, the more I feel like it needs a hardware upgrade. Perhaps a mid-life cycle upgrade that can play games in higher resolutions while the standard and OLED models handle the game at 720p or Full HD.
