Capcom Removes Ray Tracing from Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake on PC

Capcom appears to have removed ray tracing support from the PC versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake in a recent update, which has caused confusion and frustration among the community. Many Steam users took to the community section to report the issue, while some players speculated that it could be a mistake or an error.

The Reddit thread on the subject includes screenshots from Resident Evil 2 Remake that showcase the lack of the ray tracing option on PC. Capcom has not released any official statement about the removal of ray tracing or Dolby Atmos headphone support, which some players have also reported missing.

It is unclear why Capcom has removed ray tracing support from its older Resident Evil remakes. Some players speculated that both games may have accidentally switched back to DirectX11, which cannot support features like 3D audio and ray tracing. However, there is no evidence to support this claim yet. Some players also reported that Dolby Atmos headphone support has been removed, but it is possible that it has been replaced by a generic 3D audio setting.

Capcom had released a next-gen update for these Resident Evil games last year, bringing ray tracing and 3D audio features for a better player experience. However, the company has recently announced that it will end support for non-ray traced Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 starting July 12th of this year. This means that the company will not be able to guarantee compatibility or operation when using these versions of the games.

The removal of ray tracing support from Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake on PC is a puzzling move by Capcom, especially considering that the company had added the feature last year. Fans of the franchise are waiting for an official statement from Capcom regarding the reason for the removal of this feature.

Pokdepinion: It’s a rather odd move but realistically speaking, it’s not something a lot of people would care about. After all, most gamers would suffer from dramatically low FPS with it enabled anyway, and you’ll get bored of its novelty real fast.
