Sony Announces New High-Performance M-Series CFexpress Type A Memory Cards
Sony has unveiled two new CFexpress Type A memory cards, the CEA-M1920T and CEA-M960T, offering high capacities of 1920 GB and 960 GB respectively. These memory cards conform to the CFexpress 2.0 and VPG200 standards, which states that users can record stable footage at 200 MB/s without experiencing dropped frames, even when shooting in 4K with high bitrates. It is also IP57-rated, capable of withstanding heavy dust or liquid submersion environments.
Despite their large capacities, these CFexpress Type A memory cards are not much larger than standard full-size SD cards, and the read/write speeds can reach as high as 800MB/s and 700MB/s respectively, using the PCIe 3.0 x1 link – significantly higher than SD cards. Sony says the cards utilize an “original alloy with excellent heat transmission properties”, they provide the same durability as Sony’s CEA-G series CFexpress Type A cards.
Sony provides free desktop applications to support data management on CFexpress Type A cards, including the Media Scan Utility for diagnosing the flash memory’s condition and the Memory Card File Rescue for recovering accidentally deleted image data, including RAW images and 4K movie files.
Both models will be available in Malaysia starting in August 2023, with pricing set to be announced in due course.
