Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 Will Have an Overworld
With the INTERmission DLC out for some time now, many gamers are already looking forward to the proper sequel of the game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. In a recent interview with co-directors Motomu Toriyama and Naoki Hamaguchi, it was revealed the game will have an overworld.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 Overworld
According to a recent interview with co-directors Motomu Toriyama and Naoki Hamaguchi, it was confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will have an overworld. There were mentions of a world map and “vastness of the world” when describing the adventure in the next part as Cloud and the party leaves Midgar.
As for improvement, or should I say “change,” moving forward — because the next installment will involve Cloud and company to leave Midgar and explore the world map, our next challenge will be to create gameplay that leverages the vastness of the world, unlike what we did in this current title.
Toriyama-san also mentioned of an “expansive world outside of Midgar” in the topic of Yuffie meeting Cloud’s party. The first game didn’t have an overworld as the story focused on the events in Midgar, but hugely expanded compared to the original game. In fact, the INTERmission DLC starring Yuffie also took place in Midgar.
Previously, Tetsuya Nomura did hint about an overworld as he mentioned seeing Cloud running in an area surrounded by nature. This seems vague and it’s hard to say for sure what it could mean as they could end up making the game very linear, thus removing the need for an overworld, if they wanted to.
For now, we will just have to wait and see until Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is officially launched. No official release date for the game has been given yet but we do expect it to launch for the PS5 at least.
Pokdepinion: When I think of the original game, it does excite me on the idea of traveling through the whole world, especially on Chocobo and airship. Can’t wait to see how this will be implemented and while I’m sure it will be somewhat limited, some changes here and there could make it a lot more fun.
