Want massive storage space? Samsung has just announced the latest variant of its flagship 9100 PRO PCIe 5.0 SSD, with 8TB of space available on a single M.2 2280 drive. The company says this model is its largest-capacity consumer SSD offering, and it’s worth noting that 8TB is currently the maximum possible capacity to fit within the small confines of this form factor.

Following the earlier introduction of the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB variants, the 8TB model features identical sequential read and write speeds as before – meaning up to 14,800 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s, respectively. It’s powered by Samsung’s 8th-generation V-NAND and the in-house “Presto” controller, responsible for a peak random read/write speeds of up to 2,200K and 2,600K IOPS (38% and 68% faster) respectively. The new variant also features 8GB LPDDR4X DRAM onboard to accelerate transfers, with 4,800 TBW endurance rating.
Despite its larger capacity and performance improvements, Samsung says the 9100 PRO 8TB offers a claimed up to 49% higher power efficiency compared to its predecessor, aided by its 5nm controller and firmware optimizations. The heatsink-equipped version remains fairly thin at just 11.25mm tall, which is the exact height limit for installations within PlayStation 5 consoles, so you can install the drive into the console with the heatsinks attached for extra cooling.
The Samsung 9100 PRO 8TB SSD is available in Malaysia through the Samsung Online Store, Samsung Official Stores on Lazada and Shopee, and authorized retailers. The standard model is priced at RM4,239, while the heatsink version is RM30 on top of that, priced at RM4,269.
