Square Enix Publishes A Quick PSA For Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Disc Owners
If you happen to own the physical disc versions of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the developers over at Square Enix want to have a quick word with you. Don’t worry, it’s not going to stop you from playing the game on day 1, but there’s a small error that slipped through Sony’s quality-checking process.
“Due to an error during Sony Interactive Entertainmentʼs manufacturing process, the two discs that comprise the physical version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have been printed with the incorrect labels,” the studio said in a press release.
The error lies in the incorrect labels on two discs labeled as “Data Disc” and “Play Disc”. Normally, the former is required once in the installation process, whereas the latter is needed to launch the game itself. However, the labels were swapped – meaning the Data Disc you saw is, in fact, the Play Disc required to access the game. To initiate the installation process normally, you must first insert the incorrectly labeled “Play Disc” in this case.
Square Enix stresses that this is merely a printing error, it will not affect the functionality of the game itself: “This error will not affect players’ ability to play the game as long as they follow the instructions.” You can also read more details and the rectification process through this Sony support article. The console maker is “currently investigating the cause of this issue,” but you can expect future copies of this game should come with the labels corrected.
