The next generation of console gaming is here, and many gamers are wondering how well the companies are doing now with their respective platforms. It appears that the PS5 outsold the Xbox Series X in worldwide hardware estimates.

PS5 Outsold Xbox Series X

PS5 South East Asia then

As you may know by now, the PlayStation 5 was launched a little later than the Xbox Series X, starting on 12th November 2020 for selection countries and 19th November 2020 for the rest. In fact, there are still a number of countries, particularly in Southeast Asia, where it has not officially launched yet. Despite that, the PS5 outsold the Xbox Series X.

According to VGChartz, the PS5 sold 1,483,910 units while the Xbox Series X and S sold 1,345,386 units globally in the week that ends on 14th November 2020. It also appears that the PS5 sold better than its predecessor, the PS4, for its launch week in certain countries like US, Australia, and New Zealand.

As the PS5 outsold the Xbox Series X, it’s worth pointing out that not every unit landed in the hands of actual customers. In fact, plenty of units fell into the hands of scumbags scalpers looking to make an easy profit. Some of them are even selling it for more than double of the retail price. We do expect the number of next gen consoles sold to be even higher soon as more stock comes in and more countries get their hands on them.

Pokdepinion: I’m surprised by this not because I thought Sony couldn’t pull it off again but rather the limited units. One way to see the legitimate numbers would be to wait for the financial reports from both companies.
